Who needs amusement device insurance
Amusement device insurance is for businesses whose inventory or venue includes mechanical, harnessed, or ride-based attractions. Examples:
- Mobile carnival and fair operators traveling state-to-state
- Family entertainment centers with permanent amusement attractions
- Adventure parks with ziplines, ropes courses, or rock walls
- Mechanical bull rental operators serving bars, rodeos, and corporate events
- Dunk tank and similar concession operators bundled with party rentals
- Agritainment operators (pumpkin patches, hayride attractions)
- Skate park, ice rink, and arcade venue operators
What devices we cover
What amusement device insurance covers
- Bodily injury β third-party medical and legal costs from injuries during participation.
- Property damage β venue or third-party property damaged by your operations.
- Spectator liability β bystanders injured by ejected riders, falling equipment, or stray projectiles.
- Inland marine (optional) β equipment in transit and at the venue, including high-value mechanical bulls, ziplines, and ropes-course components.
- Commercial umbrella (optional) β extra layer above primary GL, commonly required by state fairs and corporate venues.
State amusement device registration and inspection
Most states regulate amusement devices separately from general business activity. Texas (TDLR), Florida (DACS), California (Cal/OSHA), Pennsylvania, New York, and others require annual inspection, registration, and proof of insurance in a state-specific format. Our policies are written to comply, and we can issue the proof-of-insurance documents in the formats most state amusement boards accept.
Adventure attractions vs mechanical rides vs amusement attractions
Carriers typically split amusement-class equipment three ways:
- Mechanical rides β anything with a powered motion vector that carries participants (mechanical bull, mechanical ride, trackless train, pedal pub, go kart).
- Adventure attractions β height- or harness-based attractions (zipline, ropes course, rock wall, euro bungee). These often need a separate specialty policy.
- Amusement attractions β concession-style devices that are amusement but not mechanical or harnessed (dunk tank, knockerball, arcade games).
Mixed-inventory operators get one policy that schedules each class explicitly. Adventure attractions sometimes need a sister policy from a specialty market β we manage both from the same agency.
